Ode to our Mailman

A big thrill comes to our house six days a week. He can be heard a street away and at the first sound of his engine, Ella, Joshua and Gabriel all run out of the house shouting, "M.M.!" (code for mailman) or "Becky Pecky!" (also code for mailman). They refer to the gentleman pictured below as "Nicey" as he is their sure favorite and most frequent bringer of parcels. They sometimes leave him goodies~ flowers or pictures, Gabriel sometimes stuffs the mailbox with dried out leaves and puts the flag up~ and Nicey has been known to bring them Girl Scout cookies and temporary tatoos, but today our dearest mailman really melted our hearts. We were not home to greet him, but when we returned we found a HUGE party mix bag of candy waiting on the doorstep. With it was a yellow post-it note that read:
For the kids at 110 Rebel Ridge Rd. Happy Easter! (a little early) The Mailman

And every Tuesday this dear city worker comes by in his "picker-upper" and hands out candies to Ella, Joshua and Gabriel. Once we were even heading out in the car when the picker-upper was coming up our street and the candyman hopped out, hailed us down, and delivered butterscotches through the car windows.

Making Ella smile

Ella wasn't really grumpy here; just afraid it was going to thunderstorm while we were out walking. And yes, she did walk around Lexington and eventually go to gymnastics in this outfit, and no, I did not feel like telling her why I thought it was inappropriate, especially while she was carrying the rainbow umbrella.
Anyhow, we had a nice walk, stopped to play at the creek and found some more treasures:

I LOVE the tooth thing, the bone part is actually fossilized! Mostly today the kiddies played outside and with their new Star Wars Legos... then took the Legos outside so they could do both at the same time. I did a bit of Spring cleaning with the merry breezes blowing in.
Can you find the clone trooper?

Spring Creekin'

collection of treasures found by the creek:

Check out these muscles!

Ella brought down a trash bag full of creekside supplies; fresh change of clothes, towel, star baby, adventure log, flash cards... "everything you need to be a girl" she said. Notice her loose tooth poking out of her lip!

All three were drenched and freezing by the end of the afternoon!

Its cookie time!

Silly Putty part II

I thought I would add this video to Ella's post about silly putty. This stuff is truly fantastic! Easy to make and lots of FUN! I'll include a recipe for anyone interested in having a gloop party of their own.

1. Mix 1/4C glue with 1/4C water. Stir. Add food coloring if desired.
2. In a separate container mix 1C water with 1/4C borax
3. Add 1/4C borax solution to glue mixture. Stir.

Voila! Lovely gooey slime to let ooze through your fingers. This stuff is really wet at first but quickly firms up to the perfect consistency. Drain off excess water if there is lots of liquid at the bottom of your cup.
